After a slow birthing process the latest album from sol-de-muerte emerges into a world radically changed from when it was initially conceived, however its songs appear to mirror the current state of the planet.
“Hell is empty, all the devils are here”
On reflection the songs all follow a similar narrative focusing on bringing beauty to an overwhelming sense of loss and emptiness. Within despair there is always hope, and while the music of Cold Waters Run deep traverses a world of darkness it also shines a bright shard of light on the path of escape.

We’re please to announce the release today of “One Last Look At The Sun”, available via our bandcamp page. Its been a long time in the making but we are very pleased with the results.
One Last Look At The Sun” is a traditional – and not so traditional – folk odyssey. Comprising of four self-penned tracks, plus a version of the traditional English folk song, Lyke Wake. Essentially acoustic, the tracks mix guitar, flute, melodica, percussion and the mesmeric drone of the harmonium to provide an aptly dark motif.
Available previously as live recordings featured on the 2015 live album (Live 28-02-2015) the new studio versions add an extra depth and a layer of strangeness to the songs.
Telling tales of revenge, injustice, death, sacrifice and depression, Becky and Jane’s vocals passionately express unresolved suffering, and a lust for revenge. To compliment this, the soundscapes mirror the changing moods; in particular the final track, How High, evokes the void of depression with its unusual spacey feel. The crazy flute and melodica duet unsettles on the vengeful Besmirch My Name, and the mini-harp and violin on The Maid of all Work recalls a pastoral scene that hides dark dealings. The song Fine Lines has been reworked from its electronic origins on “There is a Shadow” into a hypnotic raga with a soaring chant to accompany a arcane ritual. Finally the traditional Lyke Wake, a song about watching over the dead invokes an appropriately somber atmosphere.

Its been a long time since the last SDM update. We’ve had a quiet year but have managed to work on a number of new songs which will hopefully appear in the new year. For our first release we are aiming for an EP of folk songs recorded over the last 2 years. This will be followed by a new album of new songs later in the year.
In the meantime we have a new bandcamp release of our performance at the filigree society’s “impact of disorder” event as CB2 on the 28/02/2015, which you can download for free here..

Sol-de-muerte will be performing at the next Filigree Society event “Impact of Disorder” at the CB2 basement on the 26th February.
As well as performing a set which will include a number of new songs, the band will also be contributing to the main audio/visual “Impact” performance along with members of Astral Department, and VSync.
Impact of Disorder – a background
Inspired by Peter Lightfoot’s personal story of mental illness, Impact of Disorder seeks to explore and give voice to an experience exacerbated by stigma and misunderstanding. For Peter, his openness of expression has proved cathartic and, for the creation of this piece, provides a raw authenticity essential to our artistic endeavour.
Each step toward a coherent vision of this project relied on understanding some difficult aspects of mental illness. This was central to our creative process and much soul searching ensued. After many discussions with us, Peter revealed a cycle of four stages: euphoria, confusion, depression and peace. Thus emerged a workable concept.
Reflecting these stages in its structure, a dark personal history is explored within a broader socio-historical context. Multi-textural visuals point to changing attitudes, ‘remedies’ and despair, cleverly echoing various musical genres, including acid house, blues and folk. A sense of the unexpected is evoked; shifting tones and sombre imagery underpin the uneasy, sometimes disturbing, elements of the story. It is hoped that the collaborative nature of this piece finds expression in a performance which combines a kaleidescope of visual and auditory delights. May sharing our dark days make them less so…
